Rooflights are not a traditional window, which for many people is a reason not to have them installed in their homes. They are used to traditional windows, and the idea that they would go for something new which may adversely affect their home is unlikely, but there are a number of advantages offered by roof lights in comparison to a traditional vertical window.
A roof light does in fact permit more light to enter a home than a traditional window of a similar size, so at its basic level it is better in a lot of ways. There are also more design elements which can be employed with a roof light than a window, such a retractable roof light. These are roof lights which are sitting on top of a set of tracks, so that the window can be removed during warm and dry weather. There are also roof windows, which are outward opening windows, like a traditional window, only installed on the roof.
